the treasure tote.

I was recently given a copy of Linen, Wool, and Cotton and immediately fell in love with all of the designs. I am drawn to the simplicity of Japanese patterns and the lunch bag was no exception. The little one claimed it as her "treasure bag" the moment I finished sewing, and honestly, who am I to argue with that? I can't think of a better use for it.

it's you again.

With our celebratory Samhain and Halloween traditions behind us, I'm diving into all the glorious November festivities without hesitation. You see, in the years past, I reluctantly tread through the 11th month, all the way up until the very last week. Then at the last possible moment, I wave my white flag and try to reconcile, in a futile attempt to enjoy Thanksgiving day. I'm assuming this is attributed to my extreme disdain for cold weather and the passing of my favorite season. So, here's how the scorecard has looked for the last few years:

Not this year, though. I am determined to enjoy this month and all things November-related (with the exception of Black Friday, which is quite possibly the worst day ever.) I've devised a plan to help me along and reinforce my desire to be a happy person during the month of dread.
The November Declaration:
1. Embrace the giving spirit
2. Lavish kindness upon strangers
3. Make things

Indulge me. What helps you get through trying times, or rather, months?

the return of autumn.

The transition from one season to another is always humbling. Embracing the shorter days and adjusting to new rhythms. Feeling the wind shifts and quietly watching the leaves turn. At times, it can be overwhelming. Then I remember that these days bring comfort. Food that warms your core. Toasty woolens and rich, earthy smells. Crisp weather and apple picking. Fall holds so much promise.
Let the autumnal celebrations commence!

end of summer top.

Armed with Candace's tutorial and some sweet gingham fabric, I set out to make a summer top for my girl. I used Dana's sizing modifications and nixed the ruffle sleeves, instead sewing an elastic casing into wide rectangle straps.
I'm forever searching for the perfect (read: quick) naptime crafting fix and this pretty much fits the bill.
